Why do you teach?

I teach because I want to give students the kind of training that I got. I want to share the knowledge and experience that I have with our students. I teach because I want to give students an outlet where they can be themselves and also find themselves. I teach to challenge students with intricate/different choreography – I want our students to be versatile and ready for challenges in the dance world and in real life!

Your favorite dance moment?

My favorite dance moment as a dancer myself is the moment right before going on stage. There are so many nerves and emotions that I feel before stepping out there – it’s what drives my performances. As a teacher, I love seeing transformation over time in students from the beginning of a season to the end at recital! Another favorite moment of mine is when I see choreography “click” for a student.. the dancing that comes after that click is amazing.

Why you teach at DSOM?

I teach at DSOM because the people there are my family. I grew up dancing at DSOM, the majority of my days were spent there, learning and growing. There is truly no place like home, and DSOM is home to me. I also teach here because the training that DSOM gives their students is amazing – I have experienced that first hand, so I am thrilled to be a part of that!

Personal Fun Fact

I really hate cole slaw, I can’t even watch people eat it.

How long have you been teaching and dancing?

I have been dancing since I was two years old at DSOM – almost 18 years! I started subbing classes for teachers at DSOM about three years ago – 2018 will be my first season as a teacher!

Message to my students:

Always remember why you dance.. why you started, how it makes you feel, and why you love dancing. Allow yourself to be vulnerable, take chances, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes or fall – that’s when you will find the most growth. I am so excited to be a teacher at DSOM and I can’t wait to watch you all grow!
