LEarn more about the DSOM Virtual Learning Center
Thank you so much for the continued support! We have worked very hard this week to set this all up for you and we are very proud of the work put in by everyone at DSOM and DSOMS.
You will access your link through the Google Classroom email you received from director@dancestudioofmainesouth.com (this goes for Gorham and Sanford) .
Our Goals
This is a stressful time for all of us. We have several goals during this unprecedented time:
To keep our community healthy, happy, and safe.
To continue to deliver the quality instruction you've come to know at DSOM and DSOMS.
To maintain a connection to the DSOM and DSOMS community we all know and love.
To support our faculty during this difficult time when many of their other part-time jobs have reduced hours or experienced closures and layoffs.
To accomplish these goals, we have put several new systems in place for our students and their families.
What to expect
Live classes - We will be using Zoom to host LIVE, classes with our students at our regular class time via video conference. Teachers will lead a warm-up, technique/strength and work on choreography so dancers can stay on top of their dance game. Instructors will host these from the studio or from their own homes.
Pre-recorded video content - Choreography must go on! We will record videos of instructors and/or class assistants performing current and new choreography. We will have videos with music as well as slower break-downs. These videos will be uploaded to the Google Classroom. This will be your home base for all of your class information.
Assignments & Feedback - Using Google Classrooms, we will give students assignments for learning choreography (or creating their own!). They can upload videos of themselves performing choreography and instructors will give individual feedback to each dancer as well.
Supplemental content - We have a really great opportunity here to expand our student's experience of dance! Supplemental content can include lessons on dance history, terminology, stage makeup, anatomy, games for little ones and so much more! We will also share links to performances for students to watch, and possibly even assign creative choreographic projects.
Community Engagement - Staying at home and "social distancing" is no fun! We will all undoubtedly miss the feeling of connection we share at the studio. I know students will be eager to hear from their beloved teachers and classmates!
FAQs
Do I need to accept my Google Classroom Invite?
Yes. That is the way you access your live classroom link and other information.
Do I need a Zoom account?
Nope, a Zoom account isn't required to attend a meeting. Anyone can join a meeting using the Zoom mobile apps or desktop applications for Windows and Mac.
What if I cannot get into Google Classroom or download a file?
Accessing Google Classrooms through Google Chrome can solve most issues you may have, but it is not necessary to be on Chrome.
What do I do if it isn't working?
We cannot guarantee technology. It works best when your wifi is working well. In the event that the teacher or student is having an internet issue, we will upload video footage to the google classroom for you. This is all new territory for us and I have spent the past week learning new technology and systems. I have learned how to troubleshoot and fix most problems, but I am after all a just a dance teacher :-)
Can I use the Zoom link anytime?
Please do not use the zoom link in your google classroom unless it is your regular scheduled class time.
Do I need to be in dance clothes?
Have your dancer dress for the class as if they were at the studio. This helps the kids get the real feel of the class.
